    Description

Coastal Gnome (https://www.ebay.com/str/coastalgnome) offers for your consideration:
Vintage Glass Sanitary Cheese Preserver Jar & Lid circa 1950. This item measures approximately 6.5 inches high by 7 3/8 inches diameter.
Clear glass container with the following directions for use embossed in the cover / lid:
    "Sanitary Cheese Preserver
    "Remove Lid Daily
"Directions: Place one third pint vinegar and one tablespoon full salt in bottom slightly diluted with water" (Note these words were poorly embossed and are difficult to read unless you get the light to hit it just right...which is wjy we were unable to get a photo of this text)
Although not specifically mentioned on their website, we believe this method of preserving cheese is still consistent with cheese preservation guidelines offered by The American Cheese Society.
We do not know the exact year or place of manufacture of this item, but given that we had another similar item with the Patent # embossed on the bottom (Pat 2419299), we know the patent for this item was originally applied for on June 8, 1945 and issued April 22, 1947 to Arnold F. Tanner of Alliance, OH. Because there is no patent # or other identifying mark embossed on the glass, we are guessing this was made AFTER the patent issue date by a 3rd party licensed to manufacture it...or without a license to manufacture, hence the lack of info.
If you have any better information on this item, please let us know and we'll update this post as appropriate.
NOTE: This is made from clear glass!!! The reference to "BLUE" in the title of this post, is an internal reference for us here. Because we have the 2 items for sale are very similar (but not quite identical), we stuck a different color post-it on each, so we don't grab the wrong one iff the shelf when shipping. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused

is Good, Used. No cracks, breaks, scratches, wear in this piece. There are a few chips along the top edge of the bottom part of this item. See the last photo included with this post for a MAGNIFIED view of this issue. There are some dings and a tiny chip in the bottom.
There are also small bubbles throughout the glass in the entire piece; with noticeably more in the lid than the body.  There are some rough spots and tiny chips along the edges where the mold pieces joined during the manufacturing process...which is typical of vintage glassware of this age and use. See pictures for more details.
