    Description

Very Rare 1933 Master Made Marble Co World's Fair Souvenir Marble Set
Original Box measuring 6" x 6 1/4". Complete with original marble bag and marbles. Set is listed in Grist's Marble book - see photos. Set is as found. The marbles are the ones which were in the box when I acquired it but I cannot say for sure that they are the original ones. Looks like they would be since the set is in such nice condition.
Box coloring is good and box is sound with no broken corners. There is a 3/4" puncture/break near the bottom right corner - photo 11. It does not detract from the over-all look of the box top - did not even notice until making the photos. There is other minor storage wear also not very visible so please be sure to magnify photos for good look.
Inside the box is the original marble pouch which seems to be suede leather - feels like it anyway. The I in Chicago is missing or faded. Each side of the box has 16 marbles and 8 are across the box for a total of 40 marbles. There are solids and bi-colored. The pouch is also marked Master Marbles. Master Made Marble Co from Anmoore/Clarksburg, West Virginia had the marble concession at the 1933 World's Fair.
My grandmother took the whole family to Chicago in 1933, staying with her brother who lived there. It was the trip of lifetime for her. She brought back several souvenirs including this marble set. When she moved to a nursing home in 1986, the house was closed and for the most part the family had no interest in anything she had. I have a love for anything of family which is why our home is now filled with things-much too much- that bring wonderful memories of family for me. Now that we're getting older need to begin thinking about finding homes for some of these things so some are being put for auction. A photo in the album will do to bring back the same memories for me.
Looking for a good home for the wonderful set.
