    =====
    A handwritten letter on Houdini's
    "On Tour"
    stationery.
Under the words "HOUDINI (On Tour)", Bess has written
    "Forever"
One of Houdini's fans had written for a photo, but Houdini had passed away before the letter could be answered -so- Bess was now answering the letter.
    Bess informs Miss Jackman
    :
No doubt by this time you know my dear husband has gone forever. I do not know if he had answered your letter, I have been ill else you would have had your photo as you requested. I am taking it for granted that he did not send it to you. I have fortunately found an autographed movie picture, tho you would prefer one signed. I thank you for the nice things you say of him, his untimely death has left me crushed and broken. I like to hear from Houdinis friends, and admires, and so you won't forget me, I am sending you one of my photos. Did you see the full show? If you did,you surely saw the trunk trick, well I'm the little girl with the black dress, that assisted him, but I am really not a little girl, we were married thirty two years, so old enough, if not older to be your Mother. Do write me and tell me how you liked the photos.
    Most sincerely
    Beatrice Houdini
    P. S. Am enclosing the coin
    we never charged for friends
    B.H.
Bess was referring to the rubber stamped photo, as an "autographed" picture.
The coin, she mentions, didn't come with the four items we're offering. I don't know who ended up with this.
While this letter isn't dated, we can date it from the 5"x7" portrait photo of Bess (in her early years) which is dated
    "Dec. 19 - 26"
    - just 49 short days after Houdini's passing.
See this photo, in a separate listing.
The letter measures approx. 8 1/2"x11".
Ken Silverman used the information, in these letters, to confirm Bess working with birds in her aviary -and- how she was "crushed" over Houdini's death. The letters are referenced in Silverman's book, "Notes To Houdini" (pages 180-181), which lists all his research material for his Houdini biography.
For being 90+ years old, the letter is in amazingly great condition.
