A FREEMASON AND KNIGHT TEMPLAR HIMSELF, CHARLES G. BRAXMAR WAS A MASTER JEWELER WHO CRAFTED SWORDS FOR ONLY A RELATIVE BRIEF PERIOD. A SOMEWHAT ECCENTRIC INDIVIDUAL, BRAXMAR KEPT THE "X" SILENT WHEN PRONOUNCING HIS NAME. FOR A SHORT TIME HE STYLIZED THE SPELLING TO READ AS "BRAEMAR". THIS BIZARRE ECCENTRICITY CAUSED SUBSEQUENT HISTORIANS TO MAKE INCORRECT ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE FIRM, WHICH IN REALITY WAS ALWAYS CORRECTLY NAMED "BRAXMAR". CHARLES G. BRAXMAR DIED IN 1914 AS A RESULT OF AN EXPLOSION IN HIS HARLEM RESIDENCE. HE SMELLED A GAS LEAK AND LIT A MATCH AND THAT WAS THAT! THE COMPANY CONTINUED TO EXIST FOR MANY YEARS THEREAFTER. CHANGING HANDS QUITE A FEW TIMES, IT FOLDED ONLY RECENTLY.

Presenting is a Wonderful Ornate Antique circa 1890’s Enamel and Golden Two-Tier Masonic Knights Templar Jewel from the landmark McKeesport Commandery in Pennsylvania. This beautifully crafted and nicely detailed gem features a large central Cross in deep red inserted through a Mystical Triangle and a Monarch’s Crown. There are also two Crossed Medieval Swords and a large Sunburst of Light behind the Cross. The jewel is in very good vintage condition. The Enamel is pristine.The Jewel is very fine. It measures approximately 2 ¾ inches in length. A VERY ATTRACTIVE, RADIANT ENAMEL & GOLDEN ORNATE HISTORIC ANTIQUE Circa 1890’S MASONIC KNIGHTS TEMPLAR JEWEL! MEDIEVAL METAPHYSICAL SYMBOLS! MYSTICAL TRIANGLE, CROWN & CROSS! While the Jewel has gold color components, we are not jewelers and do not know if it has any real gold in it or if it is a sparkling golden colored metal of some kind. But we can assure you that it is a splendid old piece. Please note that if this piece were marked for gold, our price would be way, way higher then what we list this for. This fine gem was made by the illustrious New York City based "Charles G. Braxmar" (1850-1914), one of the really great historical American Masonic Jewelers and Sword makers. Braxmar had an odd way of pronouncing his name. He kept the "X" silent. Because of this peculiarity, during one period, he decided to stylize the spelling of his name to appear as "Braemar". Due to this eccentricity, quite a few historic books mistakenly list a company called "C. G. Braemar", when in fact there never was such a company. It always was "C. G. BRAXMAR"! Braxmar swords equaled and sometimes even surpassed the works of the great swordmakers (who themselves also ventured into jewelry) such as “The Ames Sword Company”, “M. C. Lilley & Co”, “The Pettibone Bros” and “William Horstmann of Philadelphia”.
