    Description

This is a bronze Fraternal medal listed as a "commemorative coin" for the Freemasons of the Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. & A.M.  It has a date of 1884 and is "dollar size". This coin was probably exclusive to a Masonic event and was not given to the general public.
The front of the bronze coin has raised, left facing images of 2 gentlemen, G. B. van Saun (Grand Master) and T.S. Parvin (Grand Secretary).  "Labor Omnia Superat" is in Latin at the top edge of the front of the coin.  The back side has the image of a building (lodge?) listed as the "Library Building" at which the cornerstone was laid May 7, 1884.  The coin measures 35 mm in diameter and is 3.5 mm thick.
The Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F & A.M. was "constituted" January 8, 1884.
The coin has slight wear probably due to the age and handling.  There are a few dings to the edge of the coin.
